What are you wearing? Today I wore a blouse with a green tan and black pattern, black pants, black leather flats with a bejeweled bow at the toe, green tear dropped earrings, a green bracelet, a white pearl and silver ring, and my Temple University Class ring. No, this is not an OOTD (Outfit of the Day) post and I have not suddenly become a fashion blogger (though I have written about fashion before). I’m telling you about my outfit because I am realizing more and more that what you wear matters.
We all know that books are judged by their covers and you should dress for the job you want and all that. But what you wear matters for more than those reasons. The way we choose to adorn our bodies is directly related to how we feel. Most of us have had the experience of throwing on anything to run errands and praying we don’t run into anyone we know. Inevitable we do run into someone and then we feel embarrassed and not so great about our appearance. But the truth is we already felt embarrassed and not great about our appearance because we know we did not make the effort to clothe ourselves in things that make us feel good and like the best versions of ourselves.
Here I am with my brother wearing the blouse on my birthday. |
Over the years I have given more and more thought into making sure what I wear helps me feel my best. Today‘s outfit does just that. The blouse and bracelet were originally purchased for my birthday they are cute and also reminds me of a happy occasion. The black pants are comfortable but also, when paired with the shirt, give me a business casual look that is appropriate for work. The black flats like the pants are comfy and professional enough for work, but the sparkly bows give a glimpse of my personality. I love all bling! My favorite color is sparkle, LOL. The silver and pearl ring is classy and one of my jewelry staples. I love my Temple University ring (I’ve written about the positive feelings I associate with it). The earrings are pretty and always make me feel special. They were the last birthday gift that I received from both of my parent before my dad passed away. Now I don’t put this level of thought into my outfit every day but I had two meetings at the day job that I was not looking forward too. With this added stress to my day it was really important that I feel my best.
The things we put on our body can help us or hurt us when it comes to feeling our best. I want everything I wear to make me feel like the best version of myself. I want the same thing for you which is one of the reasons that I am starting a line of inspirational T-shirts. I want to offer you something to wear that speaks positivity and joy into your life. Something that makes you feel beautiful, empowered, and like your very best self. The No Negative Self-Talk T-Shirt does all of those things.
So, again I ask, what are you wearing? Does it make you feel like the best version of yourself. Is your outfit giving you Joy?
P.S this post is being linked up for NaBloPoMo.

It is so easy to talk negatively to ourselves. We have to change that mindset

You look great! I feel out of place, and uncomfy unless I'm wearing leggings and a long shirt. I had no idea until recently that its what I love, and need to wear! – Jeanine

You are right the right outfit can make a positive change to your whole day. I recently purged my wardrobe based off of what made me happy if it didn't it had to go!

That's a great attitude. These days unless I'm going somewhere special, I am more focused on feeling comfortable and warm. But I love dressing up for events or outings or date nights with my hubby.

I am wearing black slacks, a nice pullover fleece shirt that says (I am the Big Dog), and blue socks. I haven't had to leave the house today so I forgot the shoes. I feel comfy and could greet friends and family, even strangers, without being embarrassed. My only jewelry today are my two favorite rings. I'm nearly always cheerful, and your articles bring more joy to my day.

I always look forward to your posts… they are usually so cheery and uplifting and I like your positive outlook on things. I don't always dress fancy or like other people… I need to get better at caring what I look like I think:)

Right now, I'm wearing sweats, and it totally gives me joy. The beauty of being a WAHM is that I can take joy in being comfortable and not worrying about being judged. No one here cares! LOL

I'm not a huge clothes person at all. Right now I am wearing yoga pants (in my defense, I totally went to yoga this morning) and a sports Tshirt. And I feel great 🙂

My clothes do influence how I feel. I'm wearing a dress right now because I fell better when I'm dressed up.

I agree, what I wear definitely influences how I feel which is why I've been trying to do better about presenting my best me everyday. Some days I really want to stay in jammies all day, but find its not very good for my attitude so up and dressed is now my goal. Thanks for always being a positive light on my day.

I always try to look my best. I may not be ready to model for the cover of Cosmo, but I like to be presentable.

Thank you for this reminder. I work from home most days and don't put a lot of effort in my outfits – and it's true, I am always embarrassed when I run out for errands. When you feel good about how you look, you do tend to feel better! I'm sorry for all the hardships you've had to go through. I am new to blogging, writing about my struggles with a rare neurological disorder and infertility, and I appreciate the focus of your blog. It is so easy to stay negative, but choosing joy can make a world of difference.
