Today I am going to share something that I have not shared before. I am pretty open about my life here on the blog, hence all of the TMI baby making videos. But there are still a few things that I have kept private, like what I am going to share today. What I am sharing today is not a secret. Most of the people who know me in real life are aware. I have not written about it before today because it was not my story to tell. I am only writing about it today because I need your help.
I need your help raising money and spreading awareness about the Free To Breathe Lung Cancer Run/ Walk in Philadelphia. It is taking place in Philadelphia on November 1st. I will be walking in support of my mom who was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in December of 2012. Yes, my mom! I have shared here that my mom has been battling a long term illness. But this is the first time that I have said she has Lung Cancer. My mom is pretty private and I did not want to put her business on blast. But, I asked and she gave me permission to tell you guys. There have been many ups and downs with her healthy and my emotions since her diagnosis. She has had radiation, chemo, many many tests, and is still in treatment. I have been her care giver and supporter through it all, keeping her company at every chemo treatment.

It has been hard. I would not presume to tell you the hardest part for her. The hardest part for me is feeling helpless, seeing her suffer and not being able to fix it. Now there is something that I can do. I can walk 3.1 miles, a 5K, and raise money for the cause. I can also ask you guys to help me, which is what I am doing now.
Here is how you can help:
- If you are local to Philadelphia >> join me in waking for the Einstein Team.
- Make a donation >> to the Einstein Team
- Share this Blog post to increase awareness about the walk.
Click To Tweet - Pray for my mom along with anyone you know with a Cancer diagnosis
- Support >> an event near you

I'm sorry you've been affected. I have been too…my gram. And you're right, cancer is an awful thing to have in your life, or in the life of a loved one.

Both of you are extremely brave. I lost my grandfather to lung cancer (started as lung and spread to his liver) a few years ago and my father last year (started in stomach/intestines, spread to his lungs) so I know the battle that has to be fought, but it IS a battle that can be won. I applaud you both for speaking up. If I were in PA, I would do the walk with you!

Your mom sounds like such a fighter! What a blessing it is that she has you in her corner.

Tell your mom remission is very possible, I would know I was diagnosed on New Year's Eve 2011 and they thought I wouldn't even live to ring in the New Year and see 2012. I have never smoked in my life and grew up on a non-smoking household so I was not exposed to second hand smoke. I am sure your mom is proud you are walking for her! If I could be there I would be walking for myself. ๐
