Life Lesson number 30582, read your own blog and take your own advice.
I have a confession. I have been depressed. Not in the clinical since but definitely down, sad, blue, stressed, overwhelmed, and a slew of other antonyms of Joyful. I have been feeling this way for a variety of reasons that I wont go into here but one of the reasons is definitely the holidays. The holidays are hard. They are full of personal expectations, hallmark movies, and sentimental commercials telling us what our Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, etc.. should look like. Often our real life experiences fall short in comparison leaving lots of space for negative feelings.
While thinking of what to write about today I decided to look at what I was writing on my blog this time last year. What I found was this lovely and spot on post about how to have more Joy at the Holidays. Had I taken the time to read my own blog a few weeks ago maybe I would not have been feeling so down. I’m not saying reading this post has turned my frown upside down, but it has definitely steered me back to focusing on Joy. Tips #3 (about having realistic expectations) and # 1 (focusing on what’s most important) is what I should have been doing this entire season. Luckily it’s not too late for me to turn it around.
In the spirit of wishing 2014 farewell and Life Lesson 30582 (read your own blog) here is a little list of blog posts that I wrote in 2014 that I should reread regularly:

Isn't it funny sometimes how little things can zap our joy. I just looked at photos of me from xmas my sister posted to facebook – I don't like them. Actually I never like looking at photos of myself. Then I read your post about 4 things you can control. I didn't like the out fit I wore on Christmas. It just wasn't comfortable, didn't fit quite right and wasn't the best color for me. I can control what I wear – and I can also do something different with my hair.
I hope your holidays got better and wishing you lots of joy in 2015.

I'm going to check out those posts you mentioned. I'm the worst at following my own advice. Merry Christmas!
