L is for Laughter.
My mom reads and is supportive of this blog and Chasing Joy events that I host, which is great. On more than one occasion she has given me a bit of advice that just isn’t that easy to implement. What is this advice? Be funnier!
She is on the right track with this advice. I mean laughter is so good for you. Laughter can lighten a heavy mood, kill an awkward situation silence, it makes you feel good and even burns a few calories. We should all find something to laugh at each and every day.
Honestly, I do find something to laugh at every day. However, translating these moments onto the blog just isn’t that easy. My sense of humor is more on the sarcastic, ironic, or dry side. In person people often don’t realize when I’m joking, so I’m not sure how well my sense of humor comes across here.
Now I have managed to write a few funny posts:
How to survive a surprise visit from your Ex (only last week I had to refer to this one when my doorbell unexpectedly rang).
When a spa treatment goes very very wrong, which included as many synonyms for poop as I could think of.
Dating a CAJT (Crazy Ass Joy Thief). Yes, it took me 3 dates to realize he was in a cult.
Luckily, most days my laughter does not come from poop jokes, unwanted guests or cult members. Most of my laughter comes from laughing at work to keep from crying, poking fun at myself, and being regularly out smarted by two house cats and a little old dog. Their latest shenanigans involved me going to extreme measures, which included tying two doors together, to keep the cats out of my bedroom only to find them, hours later, locked in said bedroom, TWICE. Forcing me to yell, I give up.
While my posts may not often leave you bent over in side splitting laughter, I hope they do leave you with a smile and food for thought. I will try harder to bring the funny on Chasing Joy but I encourage you all to look for humor and reasons to laugh every day, many times a day if you can manage.
I’ll leave you with a picture of something that had made me laugh a couple of days ago. Have you ever met a cat who is TransSpecies (yes, I made that word up)? He has the spirit of a dog trapped in a cat’s body. He wags his tail, sneaks dog food and has been known to play his version of fetch. Well the other day he was eyeing the dog’s clothing in a longing way. So I let him wear the dog’s coat and he was quite pleased.
What made you laugh recently? Do you look for humor in the silly things that happen in your life?
