I am pre-diabetic. I guess I have know for a few weeks now. But I feel like it is just sinking in. My dad and a few other people in my family had diabetes so I am not exactly shocked at this news, especially when I also consider my on going battle of the bulge. I have my journey to becoming a Single Mother by Choice to thank for this discovery and also the discovery of my thyroid problem. Not being able to get pregnant after 4 months of trying lead me to repeated fertility tests, which lead to meeting with an endocrinologist, which lead to meeting with a nutritionist, who broke the pre-diabetic news.
So what does this mean? This means that while my fasting blood sugar is normal, when a snapshot is taken of how much sugar has been in my bloodstream over the last few months is taken, it shows too much sugar. There is not enough sugar in my blood to classify me as diabetic now. But there is more sugar in my blood than would be in a person who has no chance of developing diabetes. This means that I am not as healthy as I thought. Perhaps even unhealthy???? This means that I have to fight even harder in this battle of the bulge.
I’m not sure why this is just sinking in now. Maybe because I have been watching a YouTuber’s videos about IVF and thinking about how I pray I don’t have to give myself lots of needles to get pregnant. Then thinking I hope I don’t actually become diabetic and have to give myself needles of insulin.
Whatever the reason, the reality is sinking in. This pill that I have been taking the last few weeks to decrease the sugar in my body and help me get pregnant could just be the beginning of medicinal intervention if I am not careful. I do not want that. Health is our most important possession. I don’t want to lose it. Health is one of the most important pillars of happiness. I can still Chase Joy, but will I be strong enough to capture it if I am unwell???
Have any of you received a pre-diabetic diagnosis? Have you successfully kept diabetes at bay?

I haven't, but I do know it can't be easy. I think my MIL was diagnosed as pre-diabetic once, but I"m not positive.

I am sorry to hear of this hiccup, but now that you've got the information you can fight it. It sounds like you've got a great team of doctors.

My dad is pre diabetic and I am trying to watch what I eat. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter.
Debra Rutt says
I've never been pre-diabetic, but I did have gestational diabetes when pregnant with both of my children. I had to test up to 5 times a day. I had to maintain with diet and with insulin.

I'm sure this is devastating news however 'pre' implies you have the chance to change it. Exercise and diet seem to have a huge effect.
Kelly Hutchinson says
I got the diagnosis a few weeks ago. The way we can be sure we won't need to have insulin shots 3 times a day to is make some big changes. That means with diet as well as exercise. I will not become diabetic!
Christie C says
I could totally understand how deflating this diagnosis could be for you. But that "pre" should give you hope!

My dear, I feel like this was for me to read and get this news too!! I'm battling the same thing I am convinced – my dad has Type 2 diabetes, I fasted and took a test and it said it was normal and I didn't take the test to see the sugar level of when I do eat sugar – however I have passed out from too much sugar and feeling sick. I think i am in the same boat as you. I'm going to stay on your journey to see what else you discover as I feel like I am walking the same path as you. I am going to attempt to cut back on sugar.

I actually found out that I have diabetes this past summer. It runs on both sides of my family. I'm currently managing it with diet and excercise. I had my A1c done when I had my physical this year and it was in the diabetic range. It has come down by reducing my carb intake. I plan to keep managing that way and continuing to lose weight. I've lost about 9 pounds so far. Need to lose about 30-50 more really be out of danger. You can do it. Look at your carb intake. It's hard, I know.

It's tough when things don't go as planned but hopefully you can prevent it by changing and tweaking a few things. My Dad has been able to fight off diabetes by walking and biking a lot.

I have PCOS which causes me to be on the pre diabetes line. I took Metformin for a while, but it didn't really do me any good.
Stefany T says
I am in the same boat as you here. I took Metformin when trying to get pregnant and it helped me immensely.

I have the opposite issue where my blood sugar drops quickly and makes me feel weak and dizzy. Becoming super serious about exercising regularly and eating clean really helped keep those issues at bay.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm a sugar bug myself, and have known for a while I need to cut back.

I'm sorry you're receiving this news. It can be changed though with diet and just because your family has a history of it does not mean you have to get it too. It's a lifestyle change but eating Paleo would change your life!
Lisa Joy Thompson says
I'm sorry to hear about your pre-diabetes! I've been eating a ketogenic diet and it's totally kept my blood sugar in check!
Ben Butler says
Ugh. I'm sorry to hear that. My GF is pre-diabetic, and it's a pain. The good news is that you can control it with proper diet and routine blood sugar testing.
