I have full length mirror in my bedroom. The way the room is set up, when I get out of bed in the morning, I am looking at a full length reflection of myself. The last two mornings I have really liked what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I wish I could say this is the norm but it isn’t. Most mornings during the week I am hurrying to shower with dove body wash or feed the animals and start my day and barely look at myself until I am brushing my teeth. Most of the time when I do take a moment to look at myself I guess I have a neutral feeling. I don’t usually feel good about what I see but I also don’t send time being critical or picking myself apart.
Unfortunately like most women I could use a boost in the self image category. We would all be a lot happier and more joyful if we liked ourselves a little more including our bodies. One reason so many of us struggle is that we have an unrealistic idea of what a healthy woman’s body should look like. We so rarely see a woman on tv, in print, or online that is not photoshopped. As a matter of fact we can even edit our own pictures with different filters and apps with slimming settings.
The lack of images of real woman in advertising and media why I was happy when one of my friends posted a video from Dove Canada on Facebook. Dove did the Real Beauty Campaign a few years ago where they use real women who are normal weight, have wrinkles, have gray hair, have freckles, etc… in their ads. In the video they are encouraging decision makers to use a real women sans photoshop in advertisements.
I have a few friends who only use Dove soap because they love the product. Now, I am not necessarily brand loyal unless you are talking about toilet paper, cat litter or girly hygiene products. However, I do believe in feeling good about where I spend my money. After watching the video and doing a quick google image search on a Dove Real Beauty campaign I couldn’t help but want to support Dove. So, knowing I was out of body wash, I decided to join team Dove and picked up some Dove Body Wash.
What do you think of the video?
Here are a couple of the ads that I really liked that came up in my google image search.
Do seeing images of real people on tv and in ads make you feel better about your image?
P.S this is not a sponsored post. I just felt really good about my Dove body wash purchase the Dove Canada video and wanted to share it 🙂

I've been a huge fan of Dove for years, because their products just rock. They make my skin and hair feel amazing. When the Real Beauty campaign came out I felt extra-good about buying their products – it definitely makes me feel more beautiful to see women in their ads who show a full range of what women's bodies look like.

I liked the video very apt, nice post too. Self love is so important, there is no such thing as perfection and trying to attain it would be senseless. At the same time we should all strive to look after ourselves and do all in our power to keep healthy. Dove has a good approach in that it appears to celebrate females of shapes and sizes, the icing on the cake would be for them to incorporate staying on top of your health in their message.

That would be a great message from dove. On their site they have a variety of different campaigns. Maybe there is one related to health.
