I feel smart! Today at work I felt smart! We all have those parts of our identity that make us feel great. We like feeling pretty, funny, important, needed, strong, etc.… For me feeling smart is an important part of who I am. I don’t know if this is a good thing a bad thing, or just a thing.
So why am I writing about feeling smart? When I got home from work today I was in a better mood than usual. I realized it was because I felt smart. Then I realized it had been a long time since I felt smart. I mean I know that I am intelligent but it had been a long time since I actually felt it.
So what was different about work today? I was in a class. The subject matter was not that exciting but what was exciting was that I knew a lot of the info already. It was even more exciting that I was able to quickly pick up the things that I didn’t know pretty quickly. I was not properly trained when I came into this position and have been learning and improving through the trial by error method for the last several years. That is not the most fun way to learn stuff. It does not make you feel smart to learn via screw up. Today I was learning and engaging with my co-workers in a very positive way that reminded me that I do know a lot and that I am capable of learning new things quickly. Today I was reminded that I am smart.
This is an important lesson for me. Part of Chasing Joy is learning what makes you tick. When you know what makes you tick you know how to better care for yourself and self care is an important Pillar of Joy. We need to fill ourselves up with things that bring joy. I am going to be looking into ways to feed my mind and nourish the nerdy girl within.

I love your honesty. I rarely feel smart these days. My numbers genius CPA hubby and my college level math teens leave me in the dust sometimes. But I AM smart in the subjects that I LOVE…. blogging, bargain hunting, budgeting, and travel. 🙂

Feeling smart and delving into something you’re passionate about, in my opinion, are detrimental to self-care.

Feeling smart is a great thing but as my husband tells our daughter… as long as you don’t ACT too smart. I find that just having some great deep and meaningful conversations is enough for me to feel smart and make me tick.

I love classes and master sessions that make your brain pop, but you can keep up and then question your plan and identify key changes. It makes me feel accomplished, too!
