B is for Bikini!!
I have never worn a bikini. Maybe I had one of those cute little toddler bikinis when I was a baby, but I have no memory of it. If I don’t remember it then it didn’t happen. So, I maintain, I have never worn a bikini.
Having been overweight most of my life I have never even thought about wearing a bikini. I have worn two pieces before. These would be of the tankini variety, consisting of a full top, that covers the tummy, and a bikini or skirt bottom. Of course, I have worn one piece bathing suits as well.
My normal bathing suit attire. |
Until recently not only was a bikini not on my mind it was not even an option. They simply did not make them for girls who shop in the woman’s section of the department store. But now they do.
.
So the question is should I rock a bikini this summer? I have reached a certain level of comfort with my body. I have no issue wearing a tankini or one piece on the beach. I mean when you look around there are few people who look like supermodels on the beach. There are also very few people who look horrible. Most of us just look like normal women of varying sizes. I think many of us would like to be more toned, more fit, more tan, etc. Most of us at the beach are way more focused on ourselves than on what some other woman is wearing. There will be that small percentage of people who will be scanning the crowd looking with a negative critical eye. But they will be doing that regardless of what kind of swimsuit I have on. Am I comfortable enough with my body to expose a little more flesh? Am I confident enough to now worry about what others are thinking about my body?
So bikini or no bikini that is the question??? What do you think? Do you wear a bikini? Are bikini’s on plus sized women a yay or nay?

GO FOR IT! The suits you've got pictured here are super cute and I think we should all wear what we feel best in. I agree with the idea of trying one one…you'll know right away.
Thanks for linking up at Wordy Wednesday!

My vote is yes. There's so many awesome suits out these days that I'm sure you'll find something that you feel (and look!) sexy in.

My two cents: As many have said already I think it comes down to how one feels. I have lost +50 lbs and love how I look in a one piece but still can't do a bikini. On the other hand, the last time I wore a bikini I was not fit or skinny. I was overweight. I do, however, believe that like good underwear, any bathing suit has to be fitted well. I encourage you to try some and see how you feel. 🙂

Wearing a bikini would be such a body positive thing to do. I bet you would look gorgeous in a bikini. My vote is to stop hiding your glorious shape. Buy a suit you feel good in and wear it with pride.
Brava on a fabulous A to Z post. Great to see you here!

Hey Julie, This is my 1st A to Z challenge. I agree that it could be body positive. I also think it could boost my confidence and help me with some fears. Maybe overall it could be kind of liberating…

do what you think is right. i personally wouldnt wear a bikini with my body but if you like yourself in one, do it!
chasingjoy says
Not sure if I'll like myself in one or not. But if I do than I will do it Pam.

I read your About page, too. You've got a really nice, positive site here. Love it. As for the bikini question–have you tried any on yet? You'll probably know right away. The pics you showed look like they will pass TaMara's comment about parts falling out! LOL. I, too, prefer swimwear to cover everyone where they ought to be covered.
chasingjoy says
Thank you Shonna. No I have not tried one on. I will at least do that. I will try on a few different ones. Then, your right, I'll have my answer.

I agree with Natalie Bowers' comment that you should wear what you feel comfortable wearing. If you have the confidence and if the bikini is comfortable, go for it!
I would add that having a toned midriff matters more than overall size when it comes to wearing bikinis.
Whatever you wear, remember to relax and to have fun – that's what that beach is there for 😉

Great advice D7ana. I think when I start my next #100DaysofFitness Challenge I will have a goal of getting a more toned tummy.

Awe! Thanks Bargain Babe 🙂

I think we should all wear what we feel comfortable in, but whether we feel comfortable in something can often depend on what we think other people are thinking! I say, if you're comfy in a bikini, then go for it! When I'm at the beach I don't pay much attention to what other people are wearing, so I have to remind myself that other people are not paying much attention to what I'm wearing either. 🙂

Natalie, I guess that really is the question. Would I feel comfortable in a bikini. It was never an option for me before so I have no clue. I think I will at least try one on.
TaMara Sloan says
I have no problem with bikinis on women of any size as long as they don't have parts falling out. LOL We were at the beach last summer, and I saw a couple of fairly thin ladies with their chests spilling out of their bikinis. THAT is not attractive.
Great start to the challenge!

Thanks TaMara. I definitely don't want to be spilling out of my bathing suit. Bikini or otherwise.
