When I first “went public” about my blog one of my aunts asked me was it like an online diary. I said no because that is not how I view it.  I mean diaries are private and you can’t get much more public than a blog, especially when you don’t blog anonymously.  However, my aunt was not really that far off.  I do write out my thoughts,often sharing things I would not actually say.  But the aspect that makes it most like a diary is the way the blog chronicles my life.  I can just go to a specific month and year on the blog and know exactly what was going on at that time, how I was feeling, and what I was doing.

The blog posts that are the best at pulling me back to particular moment in time are the ones that have lots of images.   Images make blog posts so much better.  Since it is a big no no to use images  from other people’s sites I get excited when I try out new image making apps and websites.  Right now I am excited about Fotor.  
Fotor is a free  online photo editor with  features that include Photo Collage, Filters, Frames, Effects, Clip Arts, and Fonts.  You can use Fotor from your computer or from your phone.  Fotor has apps for both IPhone and Andriod.  I downloaded the Fotor App for Android and took these pictures of the Asiatic Lilly Container Garden on my front patio.

The pictures taken with the Fotor app came out just as clear as the pictures taken directly by my phone’s camera.  What I can do with the app that I can’t do with the normal camera is add text right on the image.  Other things you can do with the app  include appling filters, adjusting the tint and contrast, adding funny little stickers like mustaches and sunglasses, and so much more.

The mobile app feature that I like the most is the crop tool. I know cropping images is nothing new but I love that the crop settings correspond to picture frame sizes (5×7, 8×10, etc) that makes it super easy to crop an image to the perfect size to print out and frame.

One of my favorite ways to capture moments on the blog is by putting a bunch of pictures together in a collage. I like doing this because I can share many images but only upload one to the post. The Fotor website has a great collage maker. Check out this collage I made of what my Patio Garden looked like before and after the lilies bloomed.

There are other cool things you can do on the Fotor site like create your own cards.  That is really a cool feature with Father’s Day coming up. I did not create a card. However, I did make a really “funky” (that’s the name of the category on the site) collage that I plan to post on Facebook as a tribute to my late father on Father’s Day.  
While my blog is not my diary it definitely tells the story of my life and the pictures and images provide the illustrations, images that can be Joyfully edited with Fotor.

  16. Those are gorgeous. I don't have a green thumb to save my life so all I have right now are cactuses (cacti?) and they've survived almost an entire year! Maybe when we move I'll retry my hand.

  20. There's no problem with using a blog as a diary, you just have to remember that what you post is out there forever. Some things are better kept private, but that's a personal choice.

  21. I have never heard of Fotor…I will check them out. Funny you say that about your family – some of my family members still do not understand what I do blogging and it has been over 5 years. I really do not think they will ever understand.

    Regarding the question on if your blog is like your diary. On my old blog, which my family read, I started talking about a topic that I was not quite ready to talk about with them. So I decided to put my old blog on hold and start a new blog that the family did not know about……except, I used the same name. I love Vodka Calling. I could not part with it. Soooooo hopefully, my family wont find the "new" Vodka Calling blog.
