E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!
Yes, me along with everyone else in Philly are still extra hype about the historic Eagles Superbowl win. My dad’s birthday is today and I keep thinking about how hype he would be. He would definitely be going to the Eagles Superbowl Championship Parade & Ceremony tomorrow.
I would love to go to the Parade tomorrow but I’m now 7 months pregnant with Baby Joy Chaser. My first full week in the third trimester kicked my butt so I’ll be watching from home. Lucky for you I was at the parade back in 2008 when the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series.
Here are my 10 best tips on how to have a Joyful time at the Eagles Superbowl Championship Parade & Ceremony.
- Expect a big crowd. I know that sounds obvious however most of us have never been part of a crowd this big. About 1.5 million people attended the Phillies Parade. I’d never been in a crowd that big. It was fun but definitely a little scary. The city is not sure how many people will turn out for the Eagles Superbowl Championship Parade & Ceremony. But, they are expecting more than the Phillies, probably 2 Million or more people.
- Go together and Stay together. At the Phillies parade I made the mistake of trying to meet my then boyfriend there. We were both working in center city within minutes of the parade route and thought there would be no problem meeting up. We were wrong. There were way to many people to even see each other let alone push through the crowd to get to the same spot. So, if you want to enjoy the parade and ceremony with your friends and family meet up first and stay together once you get to the parade route.
- Text may work faster and better than calling. I know we live in a texting age where many of us have forgotten that our phones even make calls. However if you are among the few who still prefer to actually talk on the phone be advised that they may not be your best, or even an option during the parade. As mentioned above I never found my boyfriend during the Phillies parade. We tried to call each other but most of the time the calls would not go through or they would drop immediately. With so many people (millions remember) in one location the cell towers were overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the volume. Text will have a better chance of going through.
- Take a Pre-Event group selfie. If you are coming to the Eagles Superbowl Champions Parade & Ceremony with children or adults who shouldn’t be on their own take a pre-event group selfie. Should you get separated you’ll have a recent photo to show the authorities who’ll help to reunite you.
- Don’t wear green! I know you your like what! It’s the Eagles what do you mean don’t wear green? We bleed green! I know it doesn’t sound right but this advice is for those of you who’ll be taking the group selfie mentioned above. If you are coming with children or adults who should not be on their own dress them in something other than green. I’d go with something bright like an Orange, White, or bright blue coat. Should they get separated from you they will stand out int he crowd so they can be spotted quickly.
- Take public transportation. Parking in center city is tough on a regular day. It may very well be impossible during the parade. Both SEPTA and NJ Transit had special passes. They may be sold out already so If you did not get one my advice is to leave for the parade very very early.
- Be prepared and patient for a long commute home. Back when I attended the Phillies Parade I was working in center city. I had no problem getting to work on public transportation but getting home was another story. Every train and bus was crowded. Many bypassed me. I had to walk blocks away from my usual stops to get a bus that I could squeeze onto. My normal 35 to 45 minute commute took me about 3 hours. Remember this parade is expected to be even bigger. So be ready to make a day of it and make the best of the long commute home.
- Bring your own food and drinks. While there are many restaurants along the parade route some may be closed allowing their employees to enjoy the parade and ceremony. Other’s may be open but the crowd may overwhelm them. So come with your own food and drinks just in case.
- Speaking of drinks remember Philadelphia has open container laws. This means you cannot go outside with an open container of alcohol. While the Eagles Superbowl Championship Parade & Ceremony are considered family events, there are some beer promotions going on. If you indulge in libations and are lucky enough to get a promo beer you have to enjoy it inside. If you drink outside you risk being ticketed and your good time being interrupted or cut short.
- Lastly, Have fun. This is a historic moment and one of the best moments every for Philadelphia. The world is watching. Enjoy and rep us right! Fly Eagles Fly!!!
